Irrigation Blowout

A look at the compressor stationed at the putting green
Each fall we begin our  final steps to prepare for the upcoming winter months, with one of the largest processes being irrigation blowout. We begin with the homeowner irrigation lines, then following up with the golf course. When all is said and done, the process takes approximately nine days.

A very large compressor is rented to complete the blowout and it is stationed in a central location, that being the homeowner pump house for the first phase, then it is moved close to the putting green once the golf course is started. The decision for the start date of blowout is based upon the weather forecast. If the weather looks to be above average temperatures, we will push to keep water in our lines to have the availability to water the greens when needed. This year was a little warmer, but we did get caught with one little storm, but wouldn’t be blowout if we didn’t get snowed on.

All in all the entire process went well, even though our rented compressor had a few issues and a new one was delivered to keep us up and running. The snow storm we received put a lot of moisture in the ground which was perfect timing now that we don’t have our irrigation system charged. One of the final steps will be putting on the greens covers.
