As many of you have seen on #1 fairway, we had a major hydraulic leak Tuesday morning from one of our fairway mowers. Thankfully the operator saw the oil and did not continue further. This oil will rapidly kill the turf that it came in contact with. We will do our best in rinsing the turf to lessen the overall damage. The final option will be to replace the entire strip with new sod.
Hydraulic leaks are one of many nightmares that a golf course can experience. Each mower is inspected each night before the mower goes out in the morning. Paul (equipment manager) has spotted and prevented many leaks this year alone due to preventative maintenance on all of the equiment. Sometimes, however, there is no way to avoid an unforseen leak as was this particular situation.
