As winter sets in, we find ourselves stuck inside keeping busy preparing for next season. While we wait for the New Year to begin our purchases and inside projects, we instead find ourselves working on budgeting, irrigation pump cleaning, organizing, chemical inventory, and repair-maintenance of all OBC equipment.
Paul has been going non-stop trying to get all of the cutting units (reels) ground and sharpened for next spring. With all of our mowers, including fairways, riding greens mowers, walking tee mowers and walking greens mowers, Paul has around 55 reels to take apart, service, grind, and put back together. When each mower is brought into the shop to have its reels sharpened, it is also gone through more thorough than a general service. Each mower will have hydraulic line inspection and/or hose replacement, oil change, fuel filter change, and any other general maintenance that is needed.
While maintaining all of the reel mowers, we are still working on our rotary mowers and our many other pieces of equipment. The other departments have suburbans and trucks that will have to be gone through before the next season begins as well, plus the normal break downs that occur with any piece of equipment. With all of the work that Paul has to do, all of us will pitch in when we can to help Paul out, whether it be grinding, changing oil or even just helping put tools away and keeping the shop clean and organized. Winter is just beginning and we are just now about one-third completed with our grinding schedule. All of us at GCM look forward to the upcoming months to beat the clock and get everything completed before next season.
Before you know it, Christmas will be here, so don’t forget about getting all of your shopping done!!
